“G R A V I T Y—” Fans of funk, remember hearing that gravelly voice sing it?
“Jee – Arr – Ay -Vih – Aah – Tee – Waah!” James Brown. Released September 15, 1986.
And if you believe then you can fly If a man can read, then he can reply
If every man can dream then he can defy
Let me say that if you can dream Then you can fly – G R A V I T Y
If you can love, then you can defy – G R A V I T Y, G R A V I T Y
G R A V I T Y, gravity, the big G
GRAVITY, G R A V I T Y, say it
Gravity, gotten a hold on me
Yes. Gravity gotten a hold on all of us. As we advance in age it’s inevitable: skin and tissues sag. Songwriters Charlie Midnight and Dan Hartman got that right.
Right now a dozen or so funny jokes about gravity’s natural pull on us hoomans are running through your mind. Save ’em. Don’t have time because there are some important things to consider.
When your face is at rest, do you look disgusted, perturbed or ticked off? Gravity pulls cheeks South. Uh-uh. Don’t go there. Told ya–save the jokes for later.
Point? Since gravity’s pull is natural and inevitable, you and I must fight against its effects.
“Oh, right. Great. Okay, Sherlock. How?”
So glad you asked. Remember THESE lyrics from Stuart Hamblen, way back when?
“So, let the sun shine in, face it with a grin
Smilers never lose and frowners never win
So, let the sun shine in, face it with a grin
Open up your heart and let the sun shine in”
Smile. Grin. Laugh. Oh, come on, grouch. Try it. No matter what you think, that face will NOT break.
Here we go–try again: Smile. Grin. Laugh. Yo–Ms. Grinch back in the corner? You, too, honey. Believe me, that face could use the help. No-no-no–the other one. The one hidden beneath all that product. Come on. You can do this. You can!
Ready?
Smile. Grin. You’re doin’ it. Yes! It’s happening! Laugh!
Repeat. Once again. A-a-and one more time, now.
Fantastic! NOW swing by Starbucks or Dutch Bros. or Seattle’s Best and order your fav.
Better yet, be thinking in your mind, “Smile – Grin – Laugh!” as you head in to work.
OOOH, YEAH! Just thinking about it makes you grin, doesn’t it?
. . . So let the sun shine in, face it with a grin; open up your heart and let the sun shine in!”
