So who are you when you think you’re not being watched?
That’s usually who you really are. I always wondered about that statement that says, ‘People are more like they are now than they ever have been before.’
There’s actually some truth to that. Seems more folks are throwing off social mores, inhibitions, even others’ advice in the fevered quest to do their own thing. That’s what happens to a society when one’s leadership sells its collective soul for power at any cost. Not going there today.
When you believe you’re not being watched you’re more of who you really are. Nothing put on, no masks and no roleplaying for the benefit of others.
You are always being watched. Observed. Assessed. Evaluated.
God is. It is immaterial whether you believe in Him. Your personal preferences or beliefs have no bearing whatsoever on God’s reality and existence.
He proved His ultimate love by giving us His Word to tell us about Himself. He didn’t have to do that. He’s God.
He also proved His ultimate love by investing part of Himself to come here, live among us, die for us and rise in total victory to ours possible. He didn’t have to do that. He’s God.
His Word says he both constantly watches us and reads our hearts where all our motives live. His knowing death and showing living power uniquely qualify Him to watch us. Um, no. I’m not insulting your intelligence by handfeeding scripture references to you. You have a Bible or two handy. Find ’em yourself. It means more when you do.
Now, seriously . . .
Aren’t you glad somebody that ultimately powerful and understanding has your back? Even when you’re unaware it needs backing?
What’s the real you like? Alone, as you let down your ‘public personna’ guard and relax beyond the scrutiny of others, how does your thinking, your activity change? Do you switch gears and become less introverted, carrying on conversations with you and yourself playing both characters? What about habits, thoughts, routines? How different are they? How different are you?
That’s the ‘you’ He knows and constantly watches.
South African golf pro Gary Player, now 77, is regarded as one of the finest golfers to ever play the game. He won 9 major championships throughout his career. He’s one of only three golfers in history to win The Grand Slam. On the wall of his home in Colesburg, S. A. there hangs a plaque. It reads, “If you’re going to keep company with me, don’t embarrass me.” – Jesus
Tall order? Well, sure. Even Player’s been accused of cheating. We all get accused. Sometimes we have it coming. Point is, none of us claim perfection. But we live before, our lives and motives are transparent before, a perfect God who is always watching us.
Once again–when you think no one’s watching who are you? Think about it.
The answer will inform you. It may even begin changing the way you live.
So, to answer the question, “HEY! You watchin’ ME?”
God mildly answers, “Why, yes. Yes, I am.” You smiled. Yeah, you did. Now you’re grinning.
I love you and I believe in you,
